Dear Church Family –
My heart is broken by the reports of yet another tragedy due to gun violence in a school, another tragedy in a string of school shootings since the start of the year. And to think that at this point, it takes a mass shooting for our country to even notice. Something is very broken in us as a society and as a people. Despite the sarcasm and skepticism around the offering of “thoughts and prayers”, I do believe that prayer has a role in all of this and thoughts too – honest, challenging thoughts. We need to have an honest, thoughtful, faith filled conversation about violence and personal rights, about mental health and fear, about community and guns. We do need to pray, for the families, for wisdom, for courage, for guidance, for help, for ourselves. We are in trouble and our political leadership seems to be paralyzed by politics and power.
Part of me wants to simply turn off the news, shut down the computer and pretend I don’t know about the most recent shooting, and the ridiculous responses, about vapid tweets and a spike in assault weapon purchases. But, as a person of faith and a member of society, I have to face the news, listen to the stories and work for healing, for a solution. Not because a school shooting could happen here, but because school shootings happen anywhere.
We will gather on Sunday for the First Sunday in Lent. We will hear the story of Jesus in the wilderness with the wild beasts and this week, this week we have a glimpse of the wilderness and of the beasts that lurk there.
I hope that you will be worship this week so that we can pray together, cry together, be together and know that God is present even now.
See you in church? Lucia

Passion Story Study
Sundays after worship
We will study the Passion Story – Jesus’s story from the Last Supper through Easter Morning. The Passion Story is foundational to our faith. It is a story of love and loyalty, betrayal and denial. A story of violence and sacrifice, confusion and clarity. A story of politics and power, servanthood and peace. After studying the story YOU will be invited to choose a character and write a monologue to share on Palm Sunday. Where do you see yourself in this story? What are you experiencing? How are you feeling?
Join us Sundays after church to delve into this central faith story and then respond personally.
“Around the Table” Food, Faith & Fellowship – what better combination?
Wednesdays in Lent at 5:30. We will start with a time of study and conversation about our world, our faith, our time. Followed by a simple supper of soup & bread.
